About Us
At TeleEyeConsult, we envision a world where patients have timely and cost effective access to eye care.
TeleEyeConsult was started by Dr. Seema Rathi who is a pediatric and comprehensive ophthalmologist. Over her 20+ years of practice, Dr. Rathi observed how referrals to specialists was often burdensome for the patient and patients didn't always make it to the specialist due to cost, logistics, and other challenges.
Dr. Rathi launched on TeleEyeConsult to rewrite the equation and bring specialists to the patient, when and where it’s needed the most. Our growing panel of expert sub-specialists have trained at world renowned institutions such as Bascom Palmer Eye Hospital, New York Eye and Ear, NYU Langone, Harvard and Yale.
What does the evidence say?
We're bringing eye care to the 21st century
Similar programs exist across the globe from Australia to Canada that have been incredibly successful at decreasing barriers to specialty eye care.

Great question! There are two models for reimbursment: Medical insurance has billing codes that reimburse the requesting HCP (you) for the time and effort you put in to request the inter-professional consultation. Medicare reimburses $36 for this code while commercial carrier reimbursement can vary. Alternatively, if a patient doesn't have medical insurance or your practice only takes vision insurance, the patient can pay for this service out of pocket, very similar to how patient's pay out of pocket for Optos fundus imaging.

TeleEyeConsult enables eye care providers like you to access specialist insights through eConsults.
To help you get the most out of your eConsults, here are some best practices for your eConsult. We suggest you use these guidelines together with our pro-tips when you draft an eConsult or follow-up question.
Concise
Provide a comprehensive yet concise description of your patient’s relevant case presentation history, physical exam details, and test details.
Prevent sharing irrelevant information by only including information related to your question and by highlighting relevant data from attachments (e.g. specific lab abnormalities) in the body of your consult. Include normal ranges for lab results.
Pay close attention to spelling, punctuation, and grammar when drafting your consult.
Clinically Relevant Information
When available, use our Pro-Tips to determine history, physical exam, and test details
needed for specific specialists to provide a complete response to your questions.
When appropriate, consider referencing specific barriers to care your patient might face (e.g. Medicaid/Medicare, specialty wait and travel times, homebound, correctional facility, etc.).
Clear Questions
Make sure your questions are clear so that the specialist can provide a comprehensive concise response. If you are asking more than one question, consider numbering and separating them.
Consider opening a new consult for a follow-up question if a substantial amount of time, e.g. 3 months, has passed since you asked the previous question.
If you are asking a question about a new patient, open a new consult, even if you have an open consult for a patient with the same symptoms or diagnosis.

No problem, the more data available for the specialist to review, the higher quality response! Using the "Request Consult" link on the top right, you can upload case notes, then save the form. The form can then be pulled up on another computer to upload clinical images and other ancillary testing before finally submitting the entire clinical case.

Our platform is designed to be HIPAA-compliant. We will attempt to redact PHI prior to sharing the case with the specialist. Your patient’s background information is shared. A patient’s background information includes age of patient based on DOB, relevant prior history, and your assessment of the patient. Any attachments that you decide to include in your consult will also be shared. If a case includes attachments, our team will attempt to remove any potential PHI from attachments. All our specialists execute Business Associate Agreements in the event PHI is shared with them.
